I am very very very sad to say that yesterday afternoon Malti the baby elephant at our zoo suddenly passed away. And you would think that's not too big of a deal.. it's sad you move on yada yada, but this peticular elephant held a very special place in my heart. She was born just days after Abby... and I've always thought how cool that Abby gets to grow up watching the baby elephant grow with her. We've been to the zoo countless times and have marvled and watched her grow... we watched her take some of her first tentitive steps on a leash outside with her trainer... we bought Abby the little stuffed baby elephant named and created after Malti, and now she's gone. It's so tragic to think of a 15 month old human baby dying, is it really any different to a 15 month old baby animal?.

We will miss Malti, and I can only hope her mom isn't suffering too much.
